9 Vegan Restaurants in Toronto Worth Trying + Vegetarian Options 🌱

Vegan restaurants in Toronto. Vibrant evening at Toronto City Hall with festive crowd enjoying the cityscape.

Rivaling cities like London and Los Angeles, there are so many vegan restaurants in Toronto. Every time I visit Toronto, I eat so well.

If you’re traveling with someone who doesn’t eat solely plant-based, don’t worry because I was blown away by how many regular restaurants offer huge vegan menus. That makes dining out in Toronto a breeze for mixed-diet groups. If you’re planning a visit and searching for the best vegan restaurants in Toronto, here are 9 vegan restaurants in Toronto (and a few vegan friendly restaurants) worth visiting.

1. Gia

πŸ“ 1214 Dundas St W
🍽️ Cuisine: Italian-inspired
🌱 Diet: 100% Vegan

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Toronto is Gia, an upscale Italian vegetarian restaurant (with many vegan options) that will have you dreaming of their pasta for days. With options like vegan brie made of cashews, vegetarian burrata, delicious foccacia bread, and homemade pastas like their white truffle gnocci or butter sage tortelli, your stomach will leave happy and fully satisfied.

πŸ‘‰ Pro tip: This place gets busy β€” reservations are highly recommended, especially on weekends.

2. Evviva

πŸ“ Downtown & Midtown Toronto
🍽️ Cuisine: Breakfast & brunch
🌱 Diet: Vegan options available

Evviva is not fully vegan but has a HUGE vegan menu. It’s also large and super cute inside so I highly recommend checking Evviva out for a fantastic brunch option. If you’re craving pancakes, waffles, or a hearty breakfast in Toronto with friends who eat meat, this is a solid stop. They serve both Just Egg and Yo Egg and faux meat options like soy bacon and vegan sausage. Also with sweet options like vegan french toast and hot chocolate with vegan whipped cream, Evviva is such a perfect vegan friendly choice.

3. Taqueria Vegana

πŸ“ 1543 Dupont St, Toronto, ON M6P 3S5, Canada
🍽️ Cuisine: Mexican street food
🌱 Diet: 100% Vegan

This location may seem far out if you’re downtown but I promise you Taqueria Vegana is a must stop for vegan restaurants in Toronto. The location is small and modest but the flavors ARE EXCEPTIONAL! Think carne asada tacos made of juicy marinated soy, carnitas tacos made of super tender seitan, impossible meat spiced with adobe chorizo flavors, homemade guacamole, and more. They even have chipotle cream made of tofu as well as a tofu cream.

We opted for their lunch special which consists of pinto beans, rice, and your choice of 2 tacos. It was so good we ordered several more tacos. Service was extra friendly as well. Make Taqueria Vegana one of your top choices of vegan restaurants in Toronto to visit.

4. Buddha’s Vegan Restaurant

πŸ“ 666 Dundas St W
🍽️ Cuisine: Chinese & Asian fusion
🌱 Diet: 100% Vegan

Buddha’s was one of the first vegan restaurants in Toronto and is still going strong. Located in Chinatown, Buddha’s serves classic Chinese dishes made completely plant based. Prices are super reasonable for the large portion sizes. Enjoy dishes like “beef” and broccoli, sweet and sour veggie “fish”, all kinds of rice dishes seasoned to perfection, veggie drumsticks, popcorn “chicken”, and so many more delicious dishes.

5. Soy Boys

πŸ“ Downtown Toronto
🍽️ Cuisine: Vegan comfort food
🌱 Diet: 100% Vegan

When you’re craving a “fast food” meal that’s satisfying and cruelty-free, Soy Boys is where you go! Open pretty late with several downtown locations, this vegan fast food place serves classics like cheeseburgers, chick’n burgers, chick’n tenders, fries, and more… all plant based. Soy Boys hit the spot after a few drinks.

6. Hogtown Vegan

πŸ“ 382 College Street
🍽️ Cuisine: Vegan comfort food
🌱 Diet: 100% Vegan

Hogtown Vegan is where you go when you want a delicious, fulfilling and comforting meal that’s not necessarily “healthy”. Think vegan mac and cheese, fried chicken, wings, chicken and waffles, and more. They are closed Monday and Tuesday so plan accordingly!

7. Planta Queen – Downtown / Entertainment District (now closed)

πŸ“ 180 Queen St W
🍽️ Cuisine: Asian-inspired vegan
🌱 Diet: 100% Vegan

Planta Queen is the Asian-inspired sister restaurant to Planta, with dishes like bao buns, peanut noodles, “crab” rangoon dip, dumplings, and bold Asian-inspired sauces. I personally prefer Planta but Planta Queen is surely high on my list as well. The atmosphere is stylish and lively, making it perfect for a fun night out in downtown Toronto.

8. Stefano’s

πŸ“ 1265 Dundas West
🍽️ Cuisine: Plant-Based Italian
🌱 Diet: Fully vegan

Stefano’s is the sister restaurant of Gia, owned by the same owner. With a similar menu to Gia’s but much larger, I highly recommend Stefano’s to be on your list when visiting Toronto. Brunch includes dishes like eggs benedict, smoked “salmon” bagel, and for lunch/dinner I highly recommend their cashew based brie, foccacia sandwich filled with plant-based deli slices, and tiramisu. Every dish here is fantastic. Like Gia’s, reservations are also highly recommended.

9. Vege Delight

πŸ“ 57 Dundas St E
🍽️ Cuisine: Chinese
🌱 Diet: 100% Vegan & Vegetarian

Vege Delight is a fully vegetarian restaurant, serving some dishes with egg. Most of the menu is vegan and clearly marked. This was one of my favorite vegan meals in Toronto, but my husband was not a fan as he hates mushrooms which a large majority of the menu items are made of. However, I love mushrooms and fully enjoyed the mushroom and bok choy dumplings, taro root spring rolls, and mapo tofu. And the portions were quite large. We did not order any entrees but from what other tables were receiving, portions looked gigantic!

10. BONUS: Avelo – All Vegan Bar & Restaurant

πŸ“ 51 St Nicholas St
🍽️ Cuisine: International
🌱 Diet: 100% Vegan & Vegetarian

Avelo is an all vegan bar and restaurant serving internationally inspired menu items like fish and chips, tomato gnocci, lentil and chimichurri filled empanadas, mini cheese board, and more. The restaurant is reservation only and open Wed-Sat and the upstairs bar is open Wed-Sat 5 pm until midnight. Highly recommend for a treat yourself meal and fancy cocktails that look like a work of art.
