24 Hours in Mexico City: A Vegan Mexico City Itinerary ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒฑ

1 day in Mexico City. 24 hours in Mexico City. Explore Morelia's historic streets with stunning cathedrals and vibrant culture.

Only have one day in Mexico City and looking to make the most of it? Did you know Mexico City is one of the fastest-growing vegan destinations in the world? With over 120 fully vegan restaurants, itโ€™s now easier than ever to enjoy plant based tacos, pan dulce, and mezcal.

If youโ€™ve only got 24 hours in Mexico City, donโ€™t fret because you can still experience the highlights of one of my favorite cities. There are plenty of things to do in 24 hours. Hereโ€™s your one day in Mexico City itinerary.

โ˜€๏ธ Morning: Wake Up with Vegan Tacos and Coffee

Por Siempre Vegana Taquerรญa
๐Ÿ“ Coahuila 169, Roma Norte Cuauhtemoc
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Street Tacos
๐ŸŒฑ 100% Vegan

You need a filling vegan breakfast to start your 24 hours in Mexico City. Head to Por Siempre, a vegan taqueria street stall that’s super popular with both locals and tourists. Try awesome vegan tacos like seitan al pastor, soy chorizo, smoky mushrooms.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Late Morning: Explore the Heart of the City

Even though you only have 1 day in Mexico City, checking out the historic center is an absolute must. First head to Zรณcalo, the picturesque central square, where youโ€™ll find the Metropolitan Cathedral and the ruins of Templo Mayor. If you love art and have some time, stop by the Palacio de Bellas Artes, home to murals by Diego Rivera and other Mexican artists.

Next stroll through La Ciudadela Market. You’ll find artisanal crafts like textiles, pottery, and handwoven bags. Itโ€™s also an affordable place to pick up gifts that support local artisans.

๐ŸŒฎ Lunch: Creative Comfort Food in Roma Norte

Los Loosers
๐Ÿ“ Jalapa 99, Roma Norte
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Fusion Comfort Food
๐ŸŒฑ 100% Vegan

For lunch, head to Roma Norte, one of Mexico Cityโ€™s trendiest neighborhoods. Los Loosers is a vegan restaurant with unique but delicious dishes. Think ramen tacos, noodle bowls and all kinds of vegan burgers. Itโ€™s the perfect place for a vegan comfort meal in one of my favorite neighborhoods.

Another option if you aren’t feeling the above is Veguisima, a more casual vegan restaurant with lots of gluten free options.

๐ŸŒณ Afternoon: Parks and Neighborhood Wandering

There are plenty of things to do in Mexico City in 24 hours that don’t just involve eating (although let’s be honest, that’s one of the BEST things). You don’t want to miss Chapultepec Park, one of the biggest urban parks in the world! You can visit Chapultepec Castle for stunning views and walk around the lakes and gardens.

Afterward, stroll through the leafy streets of Roma and Condesa, both packed with vegan cafรฉs, juice bars, boutique shops, and colorful street art. If youโ€™re craving something sweet, stop by Pan Gabriel, a vegan bakery offering pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread) and cookies made without dairy or eggs.

๐ŸŒ‡ Dinner: Upscale Vegan Dining

Plantasia
๐Ÿ“ Calle Zacatecas 139, Roma Norte
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Asian-Mexican Fusion
๐ŸŒฑ 100% Vegan

If you want something more upscale, try Plantasia, a jungle themed vegan restaurant with a menu that blends Mexican and Asian flavors. Try the coconut curry, sushi rolls, or their plant-based ceviche. The cocktails are equally decadent.

For another option, La Pitahaya Vegana (Roma Norte) is another excellent choice, famous for its pink tortillas.

๐Ÿน Evening: Rooftop Drinks with a View

End your 24 hours in Mexico City in style sipping a cocktail on a rooftop. Supra Roma has amazing views of the city with vegan-friendly drinks and a nice atmosphere. If you prefer something more low-key, check out one of the many mezcal bars in Condesa.

โœˆ๏ธ Travel Tips for Vegan Visitors in Mexico City

  • Learn a phrase or two: โ€œยฟEs vegano?โ€ means โ€œIs it vegan?โ€ and is useful in markets and street stalls.
  • Markets are your friend: Local markets like Coyoacรกn Market or La Merced are full of fresh fruit, roasted corn, and other vegan snacks.
  • Use HappyCow: Mexico City has a rapidly growing vegan scene, and the app (or website) helps you find new spots easily.
  • Transportation: Both the metro and Uber are cheap, but i’d stick with Uber if you only have 24 hours and if it’s your first time visiting.
  • Stay central: Roma, Condesa, and Centro Histรณrico are the most convenient areas for vegan food and sightseeing.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Where to Stay in Mexico City (Vegan-Friendly Areas)

If you only have 24 hours in Mexico City, then location is everything. You’ll want to stay close to Roma or Condesa to be central and near the best vegan restaurants and bars and nightlife.
